Report to Cheshire HA AGM

Another satisfactory year for Cheshire Youth Hockey.

County Teams

It was always going to be difficult to follow on from the most successful year in our history but to finish runners up in the North at Under 14, Under 16 and Under 17 levels and to win back-to-back national success with the Under 15 squad was more than we could have hoped for.

All this could not have been achieved without the support of all the volunteers involved with the County teams and that includes the parents of the boys.  The cost to them steadily becomes more each year, as we, as a County get stronger and more successful.

Our Mini Hockey Tournament this year attracted no less than 26 teams; evidence of the tremendous work being done within clubs at grass roots level.  This work will continue despite the financial cuts made by Sport England to hockey.

Under 11           Winners            Deeside Ramblers          Runners up        Bowdon

Under 13           Winners            Bowdon             Runners up        Deeside Ramblers

The Schools Cup Competition also had an increase in entries this year and it is pleasing to report that the Cheshire Champions at all three age groups went on to win the North West Regional titles and so competed in the Final National rounds of the event.

Under 14           Altrincham Grammar School

Under 16           King’s School, Macclesfield

Under 18           King’s School, Chester

King’s, Macclesfield are to be congratulated on reaching the final of the Under 16 competition, a first in their history.

In the Clubs Under 15 and Under 18 National Competition, we are pleased to report that South Cheshire HC reached the semi-finals of the Plate event and that Bowdon HC became National Under 18 Champions on 15th May on their own ground.  Our congratulations to them all.

As always a large number of our boys represented the North west in the Regional Tournaments at Under 13, Under 14, Under 15 and Under 17 levels and as usual we feel that some of our most talented players have been overlooked when it comes to selection at a higher level.  It is a pity that the work contributed by so many volunteers is not rewarded this way.
