CHESHIRE WOMEN’S LEAGUE

It is my job to give you a brief overall view of how the League season has progressed.

First of all a huge thank you to all the members of the league committee who have given of their time – voluntarily – to keep the league running smoothly. I don’t think anyone who has not been involved with the League realises how much time, for example, Divisional secretaries spend, checking team sheets, making phone calls, and even sending out fine sheets. Although this season, there were not many of those.  Any query, complaint etc. is discussed at length and any decision made has not been arrived at without a great deal of debate and deliberation. However, this season we have spent an inordinate amount of time having to deal with issues because some clubs have been unwilling to accept our decisions.

This season we went online and I have to thank Nicky Grey for imputing the results to Fixtures Live.  We have had many favourable comments from clubs about this system and so we are proposing to come completely in line with the Mens’ League next season and ask clubs to phone their results directly to Fixtures Live. Nicky will be responsible for implementing the new procedures.

A very exciting season was had by many divisions – going right to the last game to find the winners and runners up. There was the other extreme – in Div 1 Macclesfield were unbeaten although they also had a nail biting final game against Winnington Park. They then had to go to a play- off with Crewe from the Feeder League.  They lost the game which means that they have to stay in the Cheshire League.  This does seem unfair and we hope the North will perhaps agree to review the make –up of the feeder League for future seasons.  Macclesfield did however go forward as Cheshire’s representative in the North tournament - which they won.

The Colts League was not a success – we had 3 divisions, only one of whom completed their games. We propose to continue with the Colts for at least one more season and then review whether we should continue or not.

We already have several applications from new teams to join our league next season which will mean another division. We continue to be probably the most successful league in the North West.
