Cheshire Hockey Association – WOMENS’ COMPETITIONS REPORT

Once again another busy and exciting season for the Womens’ Cup and Plate competitions!

This year 32 teams were entered into the respective Cup and Plate draws and again they culminated in exciting Finals.

In January at Crewe the 3rd , 2nd and 1st team Cup finals took place comprising of

Poynton 3 v Deeside 3

Poynton 2 v Deeside 2 and

Poynton 1 v Chester 1

with Poynton 3, Deeside 2 and Poynton 1 eventual winners.

Thanks go to Crewe Vagrants HC for hosting an excellent event.

At the end of March the Plate Finals were played at Bowdon HC with

Oxton 2 V Crewe 2 and

Winnington 1 v Sale 1 contesting

Oxton 2 and Winnington 1 the eventual winners

Thanks must go to Mike Hollinshead who organised all the umpires for both days and to the umpires themselves and match officials without whom we could not hold the events

The Cheshire U19 tournament was held at Timperley in March this year.

9 very keen and competitive teams turned out to contest the trophy on a bitterly cold day

and the semifinalists were Oxton v Deeside and Bowdon v Winnington

with Oxton and Bowdon into the final

which was eventually decided by a penalty shootout at the end of a long cold day

with Bowdon the eventual winners who would go on to represent Cheshire at the North U19 tournament hosted by Cheshire this year at Chester HC
