WIRRAL SCHOOLS & YOUTH HOCKEY

Report to Cheshire AGM – May 2005

It is with great sadness that we have to report the loss of our longstanding Secretary, Tony Powley, who passed away in October.  However his name will continue to be associated with Wirral as his family have donated an annual trophy to be awarded to the winner of our Primary School Competition and his family connection is to be even further maintained with his son, Andy taking over as our secretary.

Primary Schools

The development continues apace with an increase in the number of schools taking part in this year’s competition.  The winners were Pensby Primary and Christ the King.  We expect more clusters to come onstream next year.

Secondary Schools

Here again new schools took part in both the league and cup competitions.  The league has not yet finished but the Cup finals results were:

U14      Calday CGGS  1            Neston HS  0

U16      Neston HS  6                 Calday CGGS  1

U18      Wirral GS  2                  St. Anselms College  2 (Wirral won 3 – 1 on penalties)

Youth Games

Ellesmere Port and Neston took part in the Cheshire Youth Games on a day when the weather dominated everything but the team still enjoyed their day enormously.  Wirral Borough took part in the Merseyside Youth Games and won the competition.

Mini-Youth Games

Redcourt and Kingsmead represented Wirral Borough and both won their respective competitions.

County Competition

Wirral took part in the under 14 competition at Leeds in at times arctic conditions and in the under 15 and under 17 competition at Belle Vue with both teams coming 4th.

Once again Wirral hosted the North West finals of the National Schools Championship and the results were:
