CHESHIRE SCHOOLGIRLS’ HOCKEY ASSOCIATION
Cheshire Schoolgirls’ Hockey Association has had another successful season albeit a rather ‘transitional’ year in terms of volunteers; indeed this has been my first year as secretary. The association depends on a very few, dedicated enthusiasts who coach and manage our county teams. As a schools organisation we are duty bound to provide serving Cheshire teachers to run our tournaments and county squads. We are always in need of more volunteers.
Across the county friendly matches and tournaments are organised locally in each area and as well as these the Association runs the County Indoor and Outdoor Tournaments. The County representative teams play in the Northern Counties League and Finals Tournaments, hosting two of these fixtures at Upton County Offices Recreation Centre, Chester.
This year the weather has not been kind to our league fixtures and as yet the league is incomplete; however regular training sessions led by committed teaching staff have been carried out from U14 – U17 level since the start of the season.
The introduction and development of U13 Hockey in Cheshire started in March this year. With the appointment of a development officer U13 Hockey can develop earlier on than in previous years which eventually will see standards of hockey skills develop quicker and to a higher standard. This will bring us in line with what other counties are already doing. This process is still underway and very much at the early stages of development. We see it as only being a good thing for our future.
Next season we hope to run county squads (however I feel that we will not cover the whole age range) and the usual tournaments. County trials will take place in September and we look forward to another successful season.
