Disciplinary Report for Season 2005-2006
Presented by Howard Dodds
Cheshire Hockey Disciplinary Officer
This season saw the introduction of three ways for reporting disciplinary offences.
A Red Card - for reporting incidents occurring during a game.
A Match day misconduct offence – for reporting incidents that happen on the day of a match before or after the game.
A Disrepute charge – can be provided against a player or club by anybody who will witness an incident that can lead to the game of hockey as governed by the EHA being brought into disrepute.
The season started very early with a Red Card for abuse in early September and gathered speed through late October, November and December.
Several players had their Red Cards suspended during the Christmas break and reinstated in early January.
A Red Card is now automatically suspended from the last official league date during December until the first official league date of the New Year.
The Total number of Red Cards reported this season through Cheshire totalled twelve.
This did include two cards that involved clubs based in Wales, who now come under the jurisdiction of Cheshire with regard to disciplinary offences.
Red Cards involving violence have risen slightly. This is inline with the national trend.
The total number of Red Cards awarded in the North totalled 53
The breakdown is as follows.
Lancashire 17
Yorkshire 15
Cheshire 12
Northumberland 5
Durham 2
Cumbria 2
Isle of Man 0
Red Cards for incidents involving ladies is on the increase with 3 in Yorkshire and 1 in Lancashire. Nationally these will be close to 200 + when they finalise their audits at Milton Keynes.
I would hope that during the 2006-2007 season club officials would impress on their players, the need for more self-control when on the pitch.
Finally it must be remembered that any offence that is premeditated will automatically insure the suspension period is DOUBLED.
