Report on Cheshire Men’s Cup/Plate 2006-07

Both competitions ran relatively smoothly with 12 entries to the Cup and 10 entries to the Plate.  Umpires were provided by the NWHUA.  Round 1 and quarter-final matches were played on Saturday September 9th and 16th and semi-finals were played on a date by mutual agreement in the mid-season break from league hockey.  Two of the four finalists, Neston and Bowdon, eventually reached the semi-finals of the HA Vase and Cup (respectively), and with national competitions taking priority over those at county level, it proved impossible to play both finals on the same Sunday in late February/March (as was originally intended).  The results of the finals were as follows:

Cup (held at Deeside Ramblers HC, Sunday March 12th):

Bowdon 5  Brooklands 3  (losing semi-finalists Oxton and Timperley)

Plate (held at Oxton HC, Sunday March 19th):

Knutsford 1  Neston SW 0  - golden goal (losing semi-finalists Tameside and Triton)

This coming season’s competition will follow exactly the same format.

CHESHIRE MEN’S U21 TOURNAMENT – SUNDAY 17TH SEPTEMBER 2006

The men’s tournament took place on Sunday 17th September at Crewe Vagrants Hockey Club. There were 8 teams entered and there was some excellent hockey played throughout the day. The players seemed to enjoy the opportunity to visit the car boot sale taking place on the adjoining fields and there were a number of new mascots adorning the pitch!

The final was a very competitive match between Crewe and Deeside with Deeside being the eventual winners.

Many thanks to all the umpires, players and Crewe Vagrants Hockey Club for making this such a successful event.

Next year’s tournament is on Sunday 9th September 2007 and letters are available for all club secretaries.
