Cheshire Women’s Hockey League – SMS Results Service

Introduction

Due to the successful use of FixturesLive for SMS Results Service, the CWHL Committee has decided to continue with the service. Please note that this system does not change the requirement for the full and prompt posting of completed match sheets by the Wednesday following the fixture (Rule 5.2).

This document describes the system and WHAT EACH CLUB MUST DO TO PARTICIPATE.

Overview

The main elements of the system are as follows:

Every club must register with FixturesLive; this will establish their club administrator. The Administrator must input the names of each captain and mobile phone number.
After a game the (Home team) captain sends in the results using SMS text. In the absence of the Home Captain the Away Captain may send in the result.
Should the wrong result be sent, then the correct result can be re-entered on the same day of the fixture.
The result will then appear on the FixturesLive Web site from 7pm on the day of the Fixture.

Club Registration (for Clubs not already registered with FixturesLive) /or to become an Administrator for your club.

Email info@fixtureslive.net with the Subject "Register me please"; give your name and details of your club.
They will send you your logon username and password which will enable you as Club Administrator to access/edit your club information.
To log on go to the FixturesLive home page www.fixs.co.uk/index.asp and enter your username and password. Go to the club admin area.
The 'Club admin control panel' is the base of operations for all club administration through FixturesLive, therefore you should familiarise yourself with this area - many of the actions you will take will return you to this page.
If you click on 'Who can access this area', you will see your own name, and anyone else with club administrator access.

Registering Captains for texting the results

2006/2007 Captains must be registered by 31^st August

To do this, the individuals need to exist within your club’s membership database on FixturesLive.
Logon to FixturesLive using your username and password.
Select Members from the menu on the left-hand side of the screen. You will see a list of people already loaded. At minimum this will be yourself.
Click on 'Add a new member' to add your captains details, in particular their mobile phone number and e-mail address. New members will be e-mailed a password by the system which will enable them to edit their details at a later date (See diagrams overleaf).

Sending in Results (SMS In) The Home team captain will text the result to 07976 601028 in the format: Home goals[single space]Away goals[single space]PIN

NOTE: you must use this format exactly - anything else is likely to be rejected You will receive a confirmation (or error) message, normally within two minutes. NOTE: results are only accepted from mobile numbers registered for the teams involved and the fixture must be in the fixtures list for that day.

Results can only be submitted on the day of the game.
You should send in the result within 60 minutes of the game being completed. The cut off time is 19:00; which is the SMS out deadline.
If the wrong result is sent in, you may re-enter the correct result on the same day.
Postponements and Rearrangements can not be reported via the text system. The system will only accept results for fixtures that are in the system and valid for that day. Therefore, it is essential that postponements and rearrangements are reported so that the online fixtures can be updated. Please ensure we are informed of any rearranged dates by telephoning , after having been agreed with the relevant Divisional Secretary.
If a team swaps round the home and away venue of the fixture, then this must also be reported to amend the details on FixturesLive and enable the result to be entered in correctly.

SMS In – Frequently asked questions

What if I know I’m going to be away for a particular game - say I’m on holiday? Because results can only come from in from the phone number entered on the system, the obvious way round this is to log in and change your mobile number to that of another team member, then change it back when you return.

What happens if I forget my mobile phone, or the batteries run out, or I’m not at the game for some reason, so I can’t send the result in? Results can be sent in by either captain, which should cover most eventualities. If neither captain can send in the result, you will have to contact your league, who can enter the result through the web site. Bear in mind that if results are not sent in by the SMS Out deadline, they won’t be included in the SMS Out messages for that day.

What about postponements? You can’t use the SMS service to report postponements – you will need to contact N Gray. (see above)

The league requires me to send results in by text, but I don’t own a mobile phone – what do I do? The simplest thing to do is log in and to enter a team member’s mobile phone number into your contact details, as if it’s your phone number. To “hide” the number on team pages, see below.

Monitoring and logging

As a protection against misuse or for use in the case of appeals it should noted that a record is kept of all calls, the number of the phone and the messages sent.
Also note the service ONLY accepts the formats given here; it must not be used for sending any other text or phoned directly.

SMS Out

The SMS In service enters results directly into your league tables.
The 'SMS Out' service allows anyone to receive 2 messages - a league table message and a results message: every match day - as soon as the last result is entered - or at a time set by the league if some results are still outstanding.
